The deputy mayor of Leicester, Rory Palmer has described their Christmas tree decorations as 鈥渂right, colourful and fantastic鈥� after locals branded this year's decorations as a 鈥渄isgrace鈥�.

The tree had been criticised by locals on social media because of its multi-coloured lights which some said were too concentrated at the top of the tree.

The first attempt to decorate the tree was abandoned due to 鈥渉eavy tinsel鈥� but Mr Palmer said: 鈥淎 little less humbug would be welcome鈥�I think most people will look at the tree and think that鈥檚 a good effort and it鈥檚 something we can be proud of.鈥�
