Deputy mayor accuses festive tree critics of 'humbug'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The deputy mayor of Leicester, Rory Palmer has described their Christmas tree decorations as “bright, colourful and fantastic” after locals branded this year's decorations as a “disgrace”. The tree had been criticised by locals on social media because of its multi-coloured lights which some said were too concentrated at the top of the tree. The first attempt to decorate the tree was abandoned due to “heavy tinsel” but Mr Palmer said: “A little less humbug would be welcome…I think most people will look at the tree and think that’s a good effort and it’s something we can be proud of.” This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Sunday 20 November 2016.
