Skyscanner bought by China's Ctrip
The dominant online travel service in China, Ctrip.com, is buying the UK travel search website Skyscanner for $1.7 billion.
Ctrip will keep the management in place and run the company, which is based in Scotland, with offices in Barcelona, Beijing, Budapest, and London, independently.
Skyscanner offers its service of comparing prices of flights, hotels and car rentals in more than 30 languages and it has about 60 million users a month.
Martin Alcock, a consultant to the international travel industry, says the company is profitable, but the price tag looks expensive.
