Gene Kelly wanted Debbie Reynolds in Singin In The Rain

Gene Kelly wanted Debbie Reynolds to play 'Kathy' in the iconic 1952 movie 'Singin' In The Rain' that helped make her a star says his widow Patricia Ward Kelly.

Speaking to 5 live's Rhod Sharp, Ms Ward-Kelly said the story that film producer Louis B. Mayer forced Gene to cast Reynolds was "completely false".

"Gene absolutely wanted her in and chose her to be in [the film]."
