Peer's ancestor defended Gibraltar in the 18th century
A descendant of Admiral Howe - who helped defend Gibraltar from the Spanish in the 18th century - is a Defence Minister, Lord Howe.
The connection was raised by Admiral Lord West who said the current Lord Howe should have given Michael Howard some quiet advice about military intervention in Gibraltar, as Kristiina Cooper reports.
