Former CIA officer Michael Scheuer has said James Comey was fired because he was a "terrible" FBI director, not because he did not "bend" to President Trump's influence.

"Comey went his own way with a felon like Hillary Clinton so why would he bend to the president?," he said.

Mr Scheuer told the World At One's Martha Kearney that Comey was dismissed because "he's been a terrible director".
