Politicians should 'give space' to security services
Former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg has said the government's anti-terror Prevent programme "is in danger of being treated with widespread suspicion".
Mr Clegg told Martha Kearney he did not think the balance was quite right.
He said that getting engagement in these types of programmes "can't just be about security", saying "we've learnt this after the Good Friday agreement in Northern Ireland".
On the decision to raise the UK terror threat to the highest level of critical, Mr Clegg said it was important for politicians "to give space to the professionals" in the security services and the police to "get on and do their job".
