Matthew James is a tennis coach at a Millfield School in Somerset. He signed up to be a hitter, who helps to warm up the players, during the Championship. In the first week, he was picked by Garbi帽e Muguruza, who won her first Wimbledon Singles title.

The Welshman practised with Garbi帽e before every round of the tournament. Garbi帽e and her coaching staff were very superstitious and Matthew was told not to shave or cut his hair throughout the fortnight.

Matthew was interviewed before the Ladies final, live on Sportshour, as part of the Wimbledon Special.
