The former Conservative deputy prime minister has said that the Boris Johnson is "bigger than anyone else in modern politics".

He was commenting on calls for the foreign secretary to be sacked over his handling of the case of a British-Iranian woman held in jail in Iran and the cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of international development secretary Priti Patel.

Lord Heseltine told Radio 4's World at One that removing Boris Johnson may backfire on the Prime Minister, "you cannot silence him...putting him on the backbenches or leaving him in the government in a different job, he will still be Boris."
