Mayor unsurprised by 'institutional racism' report
Bristol City Mayor Marvin Rees says he accepts the conclusion of a report into the council's treatment of an Iranian refugee, which found evidence of "institutional racism".
Bijan Ebrahimi was beaten to death in 2013 by a neighbour, who has been convicted of his murder, when he was wrongly branded a paedophile.
The Mayor Mr Rees, who has made an apology to the Ebrahimi family, does not think the findings are surprising, telling Radio 4's World at One, "I'm horrified by what has happened to Bijan...he was absolutely failed", adding "there isn't an institution in the UK that isn't racist... this is the world that we are in".
