'Evidence in rape cases as heavy as murder cases'
The QC who in 2015 conducted a review into how the Metropolitan Police Service and Crown Prosecution Service investigate and prosecute rape cases says the volume of evidence submitted now is "as heavy as a murder case".
Dame Elish Angiolini was talking to Radio 4's World at One after the Metropolitan Police announced it is launching an immediate review of thirty sexual assault cases, after the collapse of a second case because vital evidence was not made available to the defence.
She added "with CCTV evidence, text messages, social media there's a huge amount of evidence to analyse now making it difficult for someone to determine what is relevant and what is not."
