Whittingdale on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ pay: 'There is still a problem'
While serving as Culture Secretary for the Conservative party, John Whittingdale pushed for the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ to publish salary details of presenters earning more than £150,000. At the time, he was told by the Director General Tony Hall that the pay gap between male and female employees would be narrowed by 2020.
On the day that the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s China editor Carrie Gracie resigned from her position, citing pay inequality with male editors, Mr Whittingdale tells Radio 4's World at One that "nothing has really happened" to improve the situation and is calling on the Director General "to make it clear the actions he is going to take to address this."
