On Air In the Heart of Dakar's Traffic Jams
Dakar, like many big cities in Africa, suffers from heavy congestion. Residents driving in to work from the suburbs spend on average 3 hours a day getting to and from the city centre. A traffic reporter for a local radio station has found the best way to give the most accurate traffic updates to listeners: by being in the traffic jams themselves. Abba Diatta, from Dakar radio Zik FM, drives his scooter every morning from the suburbs into Dakar updating listeners on the conditions. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s Joshua Thorpe rode pillion on Abba’s early morning shift.
