What's behind Tintin's enduring appeal?

Sporting a blond quiff with his trusty dog Snowy at his side, Tintin was drawn to life by the Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi, who wrote under the pen name Hergé. The cub reporter went on to become one of the most popular European comic book heroes of the 20th century.

To mark Tintin's 90th birthday, it's been announced that a new live-action film is in development. Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame and Steven Spielberg are both attached to the project.

Simon Doyle is a Scottish graphic artist who describes himself as a Tintinologist. He runs a website about the boy wonder and explains what is behind Tintin's enduring appeal.
