'The first thing he did was to buy his wife some perfume'
In February 2019, Hakeem al-Araibi was freed from a Thai prison. The footballer had travelled to Thailand for his honeymoon but was detained at a Bangkok airport because the Bahrain government issued a warrant for his arrest.
In 2014, Hakeem was sentenced to 10 years in prison for vandalising a police station in his native Bahrain. He denied the charges and fled to Australia fearing for his safety, where he was granted political asylum. Lou Tona from Pascoe Vale Football Club, the team Hakeem plays for, explains what he did when he returned to Australia.
