In session

The Lightweights have been blowing up on the local music scene ever since their formation at the Worcester School of Rock & Performance in 2015.
Ìý
Influenced by The 1975, The Libertines, Oasis, Blur, Pale Waves and Blondie, the band released their self-titled debut EP in June.
Ìý
Lead singer Jodie Hughes has also been making waves having landed a weekly music column in the Worcester News.
Ìý
"A great fun pop band that bring a real smile to your face - which is why they’ve amassed such a great following in Worcester" - Andrew Marston.
Ìý

Peter Grant's son

He was once described as "one of the shrewdest and most ruthless managers in rock history" - and tonight we hear from the son of the legendary music manager Peter Grant.
Ìý
And in an usual turn of events, Warren Grant is now the manager of the tribute band Hats Off To Led Zeppelin.
Ìý
Having managed Bo Diddley, Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, and The Animals - Peter Grant went on to work with The Yardbirds - and stayed with Jimmy Page as he formed Led Zeppelin.
Ìý
The group become one of the best-selling music artists in history.

Musicians' Masterclass

As we continue our top tips from ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Introducing Live, this week we hear from one of the most successful record producers of all time - Nile Rodgers.
Ìý
Born in New York City, Nile’s first professional gig came as a teenager working on a new TV show called Sesame Street! He then joined the house band at the world famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem before meeting bass guitarist Bernard Edwards who he formed a production company with called Chic Organisation Limited.
Ìý
Together, they wrote, produced and played songs for Ashford & Simpson, Luther Vandross, Chic, Norma Jean Wright, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Carly Simon, Teddy Pendergrass and Debbie Harry.
Ìý
They eventually disbanded the organisation and continued to write individually with Duran Duran, Madonna, Rod Stewart, ABC, The Powerstation, Robert Plant, Ronald Isley, Jeff Beck, David Bowie, The B52’s, Depeche Mode, Slash, Cyndi Lauper, Peter Gabriel, Jody Watley, The Thompson Twins, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, The Vaughan Brothers, INXS, Paul Simon, Hall & Oats, Laurie Anderson, Sheena Easton, Grace Jones, Al Jarreau, Bryan Ferry, Sting, Eddie Murphy, David Lee Roth, Mariah Carey, David Sanborn, Joss Stone, Bob Dylan, Britney Spears, Maroon 5, Adam Lambert, Sam Sparro, La Roux, Mark Ronson, Chase & Status, Alex Newell, Nicky Romero, Michael McDonald, Tensnake, Disclosure, David Guetta, Avicii, Mystery Skull, Sam Smith, Jota Quest, Anderson .Paak, Nao, Emily Sande, Elton John, Craig David, Lunchmoney Lewis, Ke$ha, Vic Mensa, Stefflon Don, George Michael, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams, Daft Punk and Michael Jackson.
Ìý
Chic reformed at Nile’s birthday party in the early ‘90s and Prince inspired the band to go on tour in Japan, where Bernard passed away after the last show. Nile never thought he’d play any Chic music without him - but one year later, a Japanese promoter asked Nile to continue in tribute to Bernard - which inspired Nile to play more and more.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Music Introducing at the Worcester Music Festival

This month's sessions come from the Worcester Music Festival where we hosted a stage at Annie's Burger Shack.
Ìý
So far, the festival has raised more than £55,000 for local charities.
Ìý
Music was hosted in pubs, clubs, cafes, bars - you name it, the whole of Worcester was taken over with the sound of new music!
Ìý

Features

  • In the Gig Guide: The Bay City Rollers, Status Quo's original drummer and Barbara Dickson are in town!
  • In the Music News: Police criticised after it took them two weeks to respond to an attack at a Worcester nightclub.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Music Introducing in Bromyard

Our next recording session takes place at the Conquest Theatre in Bromyard on Sunday, 24 November from 7pm.
Ìý
If you've only ever driven through the town before, the Conquest is on what we like to call 'Nozstock Street!'.
Ìý
The theatre has now been hosting events at its Tenbury Road location for a quarter of a century - but they'd been campaigning for a facility like this since the '50s, according to the records book.
Ìý
Originally, events had been held in an 'old tin hut' which had been built in 1919 by the Royal British Legion.ÌýBut eventually they decided an all-singing, all-dancing venue was what the town needed.
Ìý
We'd love to see you on the 24th - simply turn up, there's no need to book.
