Helena Paish: Twilight
In 2019, Helena was selected from hundreds of entrants as one of the winners in the Upper Junior category of the annual ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Young Composer Competition. Her winning piece, Twilight, was performed by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Singers and conducted by Sofi Jeannin at Holy Sepulchre Church, London on 17 August 2019 as part of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms 2019 season.
“I first discovered the poetry of Sara Teasdale in 2018, when I sang a setting of one of her poems ‘Only in Sleep’ with Truro Cathedral Choir as part of a ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 3 Broadcast Concert. I really connected with the text and was inspired to look into more of her poetry, with the intention of composing my own setting .‘Twilight’ was the end result. This composition is my own personal reflection on the words and the meaning behind them. I have always been an intuitive musician, both as a performer and a composer- when I am inspired by the text the music comes naturally.â€
