“The idea of not protesting goes against the Olympic Charter”

Jamaican middle-distance runner Aisha Praught-Leer told ѿý Sportshour she will be pushing to help change the International Olympic Committee’s Rule 50 in time for the rearranged Tokyo games.

“The idea of not protesting goes against the Olympic Charter,” the 2018 Commonweath Games women’s 3000m Steeplechase gold medallist said.

The Olympic Charter’s Rule 50 guidelines prevent athletes from taking a political stand on the field of play – such as the raised fists at the 1968 Mexico City Games by American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos.
