The build-up to the new NBA season has been dominated by the debate over whether players should be vaccinated against coronavirus. Some NBA players say they will not be jabbed or have refused to confirm their vaccination status.

Brooklyn Nets' Kyrie Irving has said he is "doing what's best for me" in refusing the Covid-19 vaccine, a move that will see him sidelined from the NBA. Because of local vaccine rules, the Brooklyn Nets star cannot play or practise with the team in New York until he has had at least one shot, ruling him out of home games.

Rachal Galligan, a basketball analyst, outlines the story and speculates on what this will mean for the player and his team, and if it could lead to his retirement or his joining another team.
