With several thousand migrants stranded along the border between Poland and Belarus as they attempt to enter Europe via the border, there are concerns about their welfare as temperatures fall. Overnight temperatures at the border have fallen below freezing and some of the people stranded there have warned they are running out of food and water.

A 'state of emergency zone' has been establised on the Polish side of the border and the Polish government has banned anyone who doesn't work, live, or study there from entering the area. Polish volunteer group Border Aid have been giving medical help to a minority of migrants who have made it out of the area. Malgorzata Nowosad, a surgeon working with Border Aid, describes the challenges and the frustrations she is facing, as migrants struggle with freezing temperatures, and a lack of access to food, water and medication.
