History in the Making

The announcement, the King's Address, Services of Thanksgiving and the State Funeral.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II was announced by Buckingham Palace at 6.30pm on Thursday, 8th September. Ten days of national mourning follows – from the 9th to the 19th of September. A momentous time in the history of the United Kingdom – marking the end of the life of the country's longest-serving monarch. In his tribute to his mother, the new King, Charles III, said Queen Elizabeth's was "a life well lived... a promise with destiny kept". Services of Thanksgiving and Reflection in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, a royal procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster – and the State funeral – mark this defining moment of history in the making.
