The British Chess Championships gets underway this week at Leicester's De Montfort University.

As well as the main championships, there's also the junior championships, rapid play events and many community events to get involved with.

This year's event is the 109th British Chess Championship in the series, which has run almost unbroken since 1904.

Nigel Towers is organising the British Chess Championships and tells Chance Litchfield what will be happening at this year's events.
