EA defends its response to Horncastle flooding
The Environment Agency has defended the way it handled flooding in Horncastle in October 2023 when a sluice gate failed to close automatically, leading to around 200 properties being flooded.
At a public meeting in the town the EA admitted the gate didn't close soon enough, but said the problem was made worse by the sheer volume of water, with up to two months' rain falling in one day at the height of Storm Babet.
However residents criticised a report by the Environment Agency into the floods, and say more questions need to be answered.
