He left school at sixteen and two years later started the summer season of 1966 as a Redcoat for Butlins.

In the late seventies and early eighties, Jimmy continued developing his character in the Northern Clubs. He reached the semi-finals of 'Search for a Star'.

In the next few years Jimmy made regular guest spots on television and radio, culminating in his own TV series for Central Television and his own radio series for 蜜芽传媒 Radio Two.
