White-faced capuchin

Cebus capucinus

  • Capuchins are believed to be the smartest of all the monkeys with large brains and dexterous hands for manipulating tools.
  • ‘Eyeball poking’ is a behaviour shown by these monkeys to say “I trust you so much I’ll let you put your finger in my eye!â€
  • Fingers can be inserted into the eye socket right up to the knuckle! The monkeys do this in pairs and normally hold hands at the same time.
  • Some of the monkeys prefer nose poking instead, it’s all down to individual preference.
  • White-faced capuchins are thought to play a variety of games with each other.
