Csaba Szegedi was born in the small village of Perkupa in Hungary, into a family of miners, and started his musical studies at the Béla Bartók Conservatoire in Budapest in 2001.
From 2003 he attended the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, studying opera singing with Sándor Sólyom-Nagy, Balázs Kovalik, Péter Oberfrank and the conductor Ádám Medveczky and winning the Sándor Kónya scholarship twice.
His first stage appearance was the title role in Kodály's Háry János. He sings regularly at festivals, including the Miskolc Opera Festival, the Budapest Spring Festival and the Budapest Fringe Festival, where he won the most promising voice prize.
In 2008 he won second prize at the József Simándy International Singer Contest, and played the roles of Dappertutto and Dr Miracle in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann. He made his Hungarian State Opera debut in February 2009 as Figaro (The Barber of Seville).
Also this year, he plays Kreon in Haydn's Orpheus and Euridice with Andrea Rost and conducted by Ádám Fischer and performs in Carmina Burana with Erika Miklósa in Budapest. Future engagements include Papageno (The Magic Flute).
Besides his musical career he is interested in wine, travelling and salsa dancing.
