Zohran Mamdani wins New York City's mayoral race

Mr Mamdani will become the city's youngest mayor and the first Muslim one. We get reaction from both Democrats and Republicans to the result.
In Sudan, the defence minister has pledged to continue the fight against the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group despite suffering the loss of the key city of El-Fasher in North Darfur. The army has been fighting against the RSF since April 2023, in a conflict that has totally devastated the country. We speak to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, who says the situation of mass killings, starvation, famine and gang rapes are serious crimes and that the international community should take note of and hold the perpetrators to account.
And King Charles will award the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering to seven pioneers of artificial intelligence. Among the 2025 prize winners is Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang and three scientists who have become known as the “Godfathers of AI” together with one woman - Professor Fei-Fei Li. They are jointly recognised for breakthroughs in machine learning that power modern AI.
