Zohran Mamdani has made history as the youngest mayor-elect of New York in over a century. He's also the first Muslim and South East Asian to lead America's financial capital. President Trump weighs in on the outcome that has shocked the political establishment. We speak to an ally of the US president.
In Sudan, the defence minister has pledged to continue the fight against the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group despite suffering the loss of the key city of El-Fasher in North Darfur. The army has been fighting against the RSF since April 2023, in a conflict that has totally devastated the country. We speak to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, who tells Newsday the situation of mass killings, starvation, famine and gang rapes are serious crimes and that the international community should take note of and hold the perpetrators to account.
And we report from Tanzania where life is slowly returning to normal following deadly elections protests.
