Hurricane Melissa death toll rises

Search and rescue efforts continue and authorities try to get aid to hard-hit areas.

The hurricane, one of the most powerful to strike the Caribbean, has killed at least 30 people in Haiti and at least 19 people in Jamaica. Jamaica's information minister says "there are entire communities that seem to be marooned and areas that seem to be flattened". We get updates from our correspondents who are trying to reach the most affected areas.

After protests by ultra-Orthodox Jews against proposed changes to Israel’s legal exemption for religious students from military conscription, we hear from three Orthodox Jews with more nuanced views.

King Charles's brother, Andrew, has lost his right to be called prince due to his links to the convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. He denies any wrongdoing. Our correspondents in the UK and the US explain the background.
