Presented by John Wilson
ROMAN LIVES
In 2003 around 100,000 copies of Robert Harris' Roman blockbuster Pompeii flew off the shelves. And nearly ten million of us watched the documentary Pompeii - The Last Day which dramatised the final hours of the town in AD 79. So what is it about the Romans that fascinates us?
In a special programme John Wilson talks to Tom Holland, author of the highly acclaimed book about the Roman Republic, Rubicon and Dr Mary Beard about our love of all things Roman.
With contributions from Conn Iggulden, author of a new series of novels about Caesar, Neil MacGregor, Director of the British Museum about the Roman treasures on display there and the architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw who has reinvented the Roman bath for the 21st century.
