Playwright: Prisoners showed theatre's 'humanity'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The experience of helping prisoners write plays was "extraordinarily moving" says The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time playwright Simon Stephens. He recalled one prisoner who said watching his own play be performed was the first time he felt his "heart beat". Stephens said it proved to him the "fundamental humanity" of theatre. This clip is originally from 5 live Afternoon Edition on December 29 2014.
