Elphick: New offside rules, same old confusion

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

AFC Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick insists that his team were hard done by as Liverpool beat them 1-0 at Anfield this evening. Christian Benteke scored halfway through the first half, but replays appear to have shown that, according to a recent alteration to the rule, Phillipe Coutinho was interfering with play. 27 year-old Elphick claims that his side defended well in the situation and he believes Coutinho's goal should have been ruled offside. "We've been briefed so much over the Summer about these new rules...for us we pride ourselves on our back line and in that situation you'd say it was good defending," he said speaking to Mark Chapman and Mark Lawrenson on 5 live Sport. Elphick added: "He's gone for the ball and missed it and his reaction has made our goalkeeper react of that." "It's frustrating for us. You'd say we defended well but it's gone against us." This clip was first broadcast on 5 live Sport on Monday 17 August 2015.
