Hayles ‘wary’ of Shane Sutton's senior role

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Former Great Britain road and track cyclist Rob Hayles says he's "fairly confident" Jess Varnish would still be part of the British Cycling squad "had she not said anything and just got on with it”. He also says there's a culture of fear on speaking out among "British cyclists and staff”. His comments follow the resignation of Shane Sutton as technical director of British Cycling amid claims of sexism and discrimination against elite cyclists. Sutton had been suspended while British Cycling and UK Sport investigate allegations of derogatory comments about Para-cyclists and women. He denies all allegations against him.
