Historian Dr. Ruth Salter explained the history of a special food relationship. "In Europe itself, it probably comes in around mid seventeenth century, and certainlky is in place around the Georgian period. "If we go way back into sort of central America where it kind of originates, where cacao grows, evidence shows that it's been drunk 1000 BC...much more of a bitter drink. "These are expensive luxury exotic goods. It's only the real elite that can afford it."
