Ian Brady: He'll be judged by a higher authority

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The solicitor for Ian Brady has said the Moors Murderer probably didn鈥檛 know the location of one of his victims, Keith Bennett. Brady never revealed where Keith's remains were buried. The boy's mother Winnie Johnson, who died in 2012, had repeatedly pleaded for Brady to do so. Robin Makin who was Ian Brady's lawyer for the past 25 years told Nicky Campbell on 5 live鈥檚 Your Call: 鈥淚 don鈥檛 think Ian Brady had the information that would have assisted. He did what he could when he wanted to in the 1980s.鈥 Solicitor David Kirwan who represented Winnie Johnson and met Brady in prison, said: 鈥淢y perception is that Brady absolutely enjoyed all the attention of the media and a lot of this was to stir up that attention and to encourage it. I don鈥檛 think it upset him at all. I think he lived off it...it kept him going." "I think it was the appalling cruelty to these five children that stood out most of all and that's what has been the enduring factor in the psyche of this nation. It鈥檚 something that's not going to disappear, even with his death.鈥 This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Tuesday 16 May 2017.
