What it's like to win the green card lottery

Boston Calling

Available for over a year

The diversity visa lottery — better known as the green card lottery — lets around 50,000 people every year into the US. But after President Trump learned that the suspect in a truck attack in New York that killed eight people came into the country through this scheme, he called for it to end. Abdi Nor Iftin, a green card lottery winner, explains what the programme has meant to him.
