My mother taught me how to shoot a gun

Boston Calling

Available for over a year

Susan Cruz grew up in El Salvador but fled at age 8 when civil war broke out. Her first time with a firearm was an introduction to a life surrounded by guns. After moving to Los Angeles, Cruz joined a gang. Now, she is the president of Sin Fronteras, a non-profit that helps teens in conflict with the law. She has also decided that, due to all she’s witnessed, she’s better off without a gun. (Image: Susan Cruz at the grave site of a friend who committed suicide with a gun.
