In 2018, Xia, at the age of 18, was selected from hundreds of entrants as one of the winners in the Senior category of the annual ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Young Composer Competition. As part of their prize they received a ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ commission to write a piece for vocal ensemble VOCES8 to perform at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms. Earthward received its world premiere at the Cadogan Hall Prom on 22 July 2019, alongside music by Jonathan Dove and other influential choral composers.
