How the white cane could get a smart update

Digital Planet

Available for over a year

White canes enable people who are visually impaired to scan their immediate surroundings for obstacles. Now a device created by Kenyan inventor Brian Mwenda could give them a smart boost. The technology uses echolocation to sense obstacles further away or above knee-height. It then relays this information back to the user in the form of vibrations.
