Constance Wu: 'A good actor expands on the stereotype and humanises it'

The Arts Hour

Available for over a year

Actor Constance Wu gained international stardom with her role in the film Crazy Rich Asians. She says representation in the arts is important – but it doesn’t always have to be positive. "The harm about stereotypes is not in their existence...it comes when they reduce a person." Wu has released a book, Making a Scene, in which she discusses her experience with toxic relationships, mental health, and the societal expectations placed on women across the world. "It's important that we start a conversation," she says, "where we tell young women that it's okay to be yourself." (Photo: Constance Wu. Credit: Theo Wargo via Getty Images)
