The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service Corporate Governance Framework

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service is funded by a Parliamentary Grant-in-Aid, administered by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the British government.

Operationally, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service is part of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½. The FCO, in close consultation with ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service, is involved in the process of deciding which languages are broadcast, but production and editorial control rests entirely with the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½.

The relationship between ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service and the FCO is governed by two documents: the Broadcasting Agreement, which sets out the aims and objectives of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service and provisions for performance assessment; and, the Financial Memorandum, which sets out the financial arrangements.

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service Board is operationally responsible for complying with these two documents.

Within the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ ultimate responsibility for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service is vested in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust, which is the sovereign body of the corporation. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust and the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ executive Board ensure that ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service operates responsibly and maintains high standards of editorial integrity and content.

The respective responsibilities of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust and the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ executive Board relating to the operation of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service are outlined in a protocol published by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Trust.
