We are 100!

Yes, yes. I know. I promised I would write Childhood II, but I'm afraid you'll have to wait just a little bit longer. I'm sorry. Actually, I'm not sorry, because this is the start of an exciting year, which I thought I'd tell you about. You see, we're 100. Not me personally, you understand. Not even ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Learning English. In fact, to go off on a slight tangent, can any of you guess how long the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ has been teaching English on the World Service? We haven't always been called ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Learning English - we've been called: English by Radio, English by Radio and Television and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ English.

Anyway, back to the title of this blog. "We" were 100 on 4 September. Any idea who the "we" is? Do you know, I'm going to be very mean and see if you can guess. Tonight is Sunday evening. I'll give you until 5 p.m. GMT on Monday to see if you can work it out.... Would you like a clue? Hmmm. OK: well we have 10 million members around the world. Does that help?

So there you go: two puzzles for you:

1. When did the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ start teaching English on the World Service?
2. Who or what was 100 years old on Friday?

Take care

Carrie

Let me try to guess, dear Carrie! I suppose you didn't expect we know the answer by default. Do you mean "Girl Guides"? I suppose You are a member of that movement. I am looking forward to hearing the answer. Take care!Diema

Hi Carrie! Oooh... I´m craving for knowing who or what was 100. Is it the Rangers? Don´t be mean Carrie, let us know pleaseeee :-). Anyway, I´ll have a go at the first puzzle. ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ started teaching English in 1945. Is it correct? I´m looking forward to reading your answers. All the best, Ana Paula.

Hi Carrie, Hmmmm, well........number 1) I think that ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ started teaching English in 1942. Number 2) I think that The Rangers are going to be 100. Hope this comment can published before your answer. Looking forward to your next blog with the results of the guess. See you, Cris

Hi Carrie! I am not sure but here is my guess: 1, The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World Service began as the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Empire Service in 1932. 2, Girl Guides turned 100. Looking forward to reading the answers. Take care!
