"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"

My first step ...

Hello, everybody!
I feel lucky to be the next blogger. I can hardly believe it. It is amazing. Thank you! On the other hand I am a little afraid because I have only been learning English for three years. It is a big challenge for me.

Firstly, I would like to welcome the next teacher blogger but I have not known her/him yet.

I promised in my paragraph that if I won I would blog about the relationship between mother and daughter who do not see each other very often. So, secondly I would like to introduce myself and my family. My name is Anita Nagyová. Do not be surprised if women use ová after their names. It is common in Slovakia but nowadays this is optional. My name is enrolled in my all official documents in this way so I use it. But my daughter name is Csilla Nagy. Another curiosity about our names is that it is our Slovak name because the official language is Slovak. But we belong to the Hungarian minority living in Slovakia and if somebody asks in Hungarian: "What is your name?" we will answer: "My name is Nagy Anita" not Anita Nagy like in English. Our mother language is Hungarian and we speak in Hungarian at home. My children also have the opportunity to study in Hungarian school where they study Slovak, English and German language as well. In my childhood I used to learn Russian and German, so I have to make up leeway and I am learning English now.

Getting back to me and my family - I am married and I live with my husband and our two children in a small village in the west of Slovakia. My husband is an owner of a business and I am self-employed, too. He runs a small company that deals with exporting and importing agricultural products. We work together. I help my husband with paperwork. I also answer phonos or type letters. Our office is at home so most of the time I am at home. In the morning I do the housework. To tell the truth I have never wanted to become a successful businesswoman. It is not important to me. My biggest ambition was to be a good mother. I must say I still have high hopes of becoming a great mother. I try my best to bring my children up. Am I an old-fashioned woman, because I do not want to build my career? What do you think?

My daughter is 19 years old. She is studying psychology at a university in England. She is also working there for a living. She is coming home in September. It will be our second encounter this year. I can not wait! We are both counting the days until we see each other. Sometimes it is quite hard for me because I really miss her. On the other hand I am overjoyed that she has a chance to study in England. My son, Peter, is 15 years old. He is in his first year at secondary technical school. Speaking of school, the new school year has started. Today is the first school day. The school regularly starts on 1st September but this day is a public holiday in Slovakia. It is the holiday honoring the forming of the constitution of the Slovak Republik. The shops are closed and people do not work this day. So, my son has gone to school today and his easy life ended. He will miss the freedom of the summer vacation. Yesterday he was very excited about going to the new school. I am sure, when he comes home he will tell me his impression about the school.

Well, I must go as my son will arrive soon and I have to prepare lunch because he eats like a horse.
I look forward to reading a lot of comments.

Anita

Dear Anita, I am very impressed by your English. I thought it is almost impossible to get such a good knowledge of English in only three years. Can you please tell me what is your way of learning? Are you attending an intensive course or are you just studying from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ webpage? Do you have any special tactics? Thanks and good luck with your blog. I will come back :) Tina

Hi Anita, I've just read your first post and I would like to tell you... WELCOME!!! Have a nice time as ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Blogger...

hello anita, this is the first time that i reed a blogit is interesting.Ilearnt english in the school. i speek arabic.i came in fracne for doing Doctorat in immunology. I learnt french and I use it very well. i begin now to improve my english languges, beacuse when i learnt french, it become diffucult to speek english. i never speek english outside of school.so i look ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ web site for that.in short i have 35years old, i have married last year and i have a doughter of 2.5months. what you feel for your daughter is fantastique,i m at the oppisite of you i spent my life wright now for making my career.but now i think it is formidabe to have children when pessone is yong. They will be as friends it is great.

You wrote: "Am I an old-fashioned woman, because I do not want to build my career? What do you think?" I don't think so, Anita. You are just a woman who has clear goals in life and live accordingly to her priorities. I do prefer to devote my time to my career and I am not very interested in becoming a other (at least not yet), but this is my option and it has not be shared by all women in the world. After all, being able to build a career should be a right for women (as for men), but never a must! Welcome to the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s blog!

Anita, I can relate to your Peter's feelings. Although I am 24, I vividly remember the three months of summer vacation here in the United States and the dread of returning to school each August or September. However, there was some excitement of returning to school. For instance, when I was too young to get a summer job, it got to the point when I had very little to do, and that made having a schedule again appealing. However, I did miss the freedom of summer. When I attended college (Americans commonly say "going to college" instead of "going to university"), I took classes during the summer and stayed at my school during the summer. Summer vacation was not that big of a deal as I grew older. For me it was better to get my degree done quicker than spending most of my time making money in the summer that would rapidly disappear during the school. That made it a lot easier to return to school in the fall. Further, tuition increased each year as well; thus, finishing college earlier would save me money in the long run. Besides, I had scholarship money during the summer. Now that I have a full-time job, I do not have a long summer vacation. At least I have more of a choice of when I can use my time off. Let Peter know that he better enjoy his long summer vacations while he can because he probably won't have them again until he completes his career. However, once he begins university and works during the summer, things get better.

Hello! Anita, Nice to meet you! We have lots of things in common like you said before. I feel jealous that you have a son and a daughter. And your daughter is 19 years old! You look really young. I am waiting for your next blog! Bye!

Hi Anita!! I'm an Italian girl and I'm sorry for my English...I'm trying to learn it. You speak about your daughter and I can imagine is wonderful having that relation between mum and son. Unfortunately I can't have it, my mum is gone so I can't enjoy that relation. It sounds so unbelievable you have learnt English sonce just three years ago. You can write it very good!!! I have difficult in that. Maybe that's because here in Italy people don't speak English so you can't practise that. I visit a pair of websites but I need a lot of practice. If you want I will write to you again so I can improve the language and maybe you could give me some advises about the relation between mum and son. Thanks for now Anita. with love, Rosi

The Human have two life in the world first for own second for his children. Today humans use both of them for own. His children haven't enough kindness and mercy. it will go on until human undrestand. Anita ı think this subject importand and ı am writting first time in this blog and my english not enough. However ı liked your opinions especially between your family. Everything is very good if you know looking. Thanks to god and thanks for that they are good thinking.

Hello Anita. I really enjoyed reading this blog, since I am to tired of writing my own one :D. I like that somebody actually does something to give the word "Slovakia" some meaning when it's said. I am in Scotland now for one and a half years and it's really great to know somebody who had the same experience. As I said, I am to tired to make my own blog and at this time(1:34am) my eyes are draging me to the bed so I'll briefly tell you people how I got the english in such a short time(I'll put it down in the points): 0. You've got to know the basic in english to start practise in my way. 1. Watch lots of movies in english lagnguage AND have the subtitles in your own language draged to them. 2. After some time, you realise you're actually getting better in your spoken language and your vocabulary. That's the time when you start to watch these movies in english language with ENGLISH subtitles(this helps a lot with your vocabulary) 3. Now you shoud be able to understand the spoken language wihout any help(only as long as the language doesn't have an accent added to it) so now you can visit any english-speaking country wihout haveing any difficulties understanding it. NOTE: I am a visual learner, so I get the language into my head quicker by watching what was actually said. If you're not a visual learner than watching movies with subtitles will probably bore you to death. There are many ways to find out what "kind" of a learner you are, the only thing you have to do is just google it out ^^. Remember, if you want to learn the language the easy way, then firstly sort out what kinf of a learner you are and then it should flow easily. THANKS FOR READING. Best regards Anita!
