White chocolate cake like a surprise
I really must say how grateful I am for receiving your comments and for Lewis麓s help.
The temperatures are cooling off. It is only 22掳C in the warmest part of the day. The sky is clody. There is a rainy weather today.
It is only one night and Csilla will be at home. I am getting more and more nervous. I have a few butterflies in my stomach again about Csilla flying. I hope that the authorities will be on hight alert.
In the morning I had a visitor. My father came over and I entertained him for lunch. After that we had a nice conversation over a cup of coffee. He lives not far from us in other village. It takes 15 minutes by car to get there. It is so extremely good to live close to family. He lives together with my younger brother, his wife and son. My father is doing well. He is 66 years old and he is retired. He has a garden with fruit trees and he raises animals: rabbits, pigs, chicken for own use and for us too. He brought me lots of fresh eggs so I will be able to cake Csilla麓s favourite white chocolate cake tomorrow. It will be a surprise for her. I can let the cat out of the bag because I am sure, she will not be online until tomorrow.
We also have quite a big garden where we always have some work but we /my huband and I/ have green fingers. In this garden we have small vegetable pots . There is an orchard in the back of the garden. Around the house there is grass everywhere. I have a small rockery and lots of different flowers. Our garden is very nice mainly in the spring when the trees are in blossom and the flowers are colorful. I can pick fresh fruit end vegetable from our garden. During the summer I canned lots of cucumbers, green beans, peaches, apricots, nectarines and so on. I also made jam from apricots and strawberries. It saves money and it tastes better.
My son likes helping less around the house. He does the work but he always grumbles.
About one and a half week ago my son noticed that he runs out of his pocket money. My husband will offer payment to him if he fell trees in the garden. We have three apricot trees, one cherry tree and one sour cherry tree which are dried. He have to root out them, so it is quite a hard row to hoe. He started to work with a big ardor. In the afternoon he had some water blisters on his flat of the hand. In the evening he was so tired that he went to bed very early and slept like a log. Since then he has dug out three trees and our digger is broken. Now we have to buy a new one. Is it a good idea to offer payment to children for help? What do you think?
Best wishes! Have a nice weekend!
Anita

You must be very happy, use your time. Věra
Hey Anita, I hope that you have a great weekend as well. Actually, I've been telling people to have a groovy weekend today. Same difference... I had a slight chuckle when you wrote, "we /my huband and I/ have green fingers." The idiom is actually "green thumb," but you're doing so well. That is coming from someone who has studied Spanish and Vietnamese extensively; I know how hard idioms can be. Keep up the good work!
Dear Atina, Have a nice weekend. Sure you will, right? Best wishes ~
Hi,Anita!so great to enjoy your blog these days. You are far from our country.I even donn't know where is your country located. After reading your first blog,i tried to find it in the map of world.I knew you are neighbour of Czech.I would have tought that you are the same country.I know you are with yourlovely daughter now. Happy reunion!so much appreciate your blog which help me improve my English lot.As a matter of fact my aim for lerning English is almost same with you.As my daughter now studies in an international school.I want to improve my English to communicat with her teachers. I am just a beginner but i keep your idiom in heart "a journey of one thousand miles begins wiht a single step. Looking forward to reading your next blog.
Hello,Anita! I am sure the cake was delicious.I like sweets very much and I wouldn't miss the chance to try it if I could.Cooking gives me great pleasure. As I understand you are a perfect housewife and cooking is pleasure for you too. Gardening requires attention, patience and hard work.Sometimes it is not as rewarding as we expect due to the weather. My parents live in a house and grow up vegetables and flowers. The tomatos, peppers, cucumbers, cabbage from theirs garden have incredible taste which have noting in common with those from the market.Your family should be happy to consume ekological food which is preservative and conservants free. The efforts are worthy. Now about payment to children. I totally agree with our teacher Lewis that a little pocket money.Such amount of money can motivated young children to help with housework. But not more! They should understand that everyone at home has his/her own obligations which are not paid. Everyone at home has moral responsibilities and should expect nothing for them. That is my point of view. You can refute me.I am eager to read other comments on this topic. Have a nice week!
Hi Anita!! So, I guess you had a great week end with your daughter!! Concerning to offer payment to children I think it depends on their age. I think parents has to reward them with a prize, such as money, cakes, cuddles...if they did something good or special. I suppose that could help them to understand what is good and what is not. I have no kids yet so that is just my thought!! I'd like to taste that white chocolate cake...I'm really greedy!!! Have a nice Monday Anita and have fun with all your family!!!! Cheers, Rosalba
Hi~I am mapleleaf from china .Thanks, but I can not understand the sentence :I have a few butterflies in my stomach again about Csilla flying.:
Hi Steve, Actually you're both right! In American English you do say "Green thumb" but Anita is corect: in British English, we say "Green fingers".
Hi Mapleleaf, that is a famous idiom meaning you are nevious about something. If there are butterflies flying in your heart or stomach, what do you feel? Hope you are clear now
^^ Well said... 'green fingers' is OK in British English! For Mapleleaf, if you have "butterflies in your stomach" it means you are nervous.
For about payment to a childreen for a work, I think that it isn't alaways a good thing. We have to teach them that they have to do some homework naturally without payment. They heve to receave money for their necessity, but not alaways linked to a job. If you alaways do this you can construct a monetarist life philosophy in their mind (all by money.
