Tricky price tags
It seems to me that I will write only a few words today because nothing interesting to write about comes to my mind today… unless I tell you what made me annoyed a few weeks ago. In our town there are several supermarkets. I always go to do the weekly food shopping in one of them because I usually find a wide choice of all kinds of food there that my family likes and the staff are responsive and understanding. So, I went there and I saw that there are lots of bargains. I was happy because I thought that I would save some money if I bought things cheaper than their usual price. Below several goods there were price tags showing the usual and the new price. I did my shopping and I was satisfied until I had a look at the receipt. I noticed that there were no bargains - I bought almost everything at the usual price. I made a complaint. The staff apologised to me and I got back my money. Everybody could say: “All is well that ends well!” But when I went there one week later I noticed that nothing had changed. I bought some items, I realised that I did not get a discount on them. I made a complaint again and I said that I did not want to get back the money but I wanted them to change the price. The staff were not very respectful this time. Do similar things happen in your country?
In the morning Csilla was in town to make some arrangements and on the way home she stopped at her grandmother to bid farewell to her.
We have had several visitors today. Firstly, my father visited us and said goodbye to Csilla. Secondly, Csilla’s two former classmates at high school popped in to chat and give Csilla a hug.
I am going now because I would like to spend this little time with her.
Bye, bye! Have a nice weekend!
Anita

I can sympathize somewhat with the store staff since I once worked at a drugstore (called a "chemist" in Australia) several years ago. With hundreds of thousands of items and new sales each week, it was virtually impossible to get the week's sale 100% correct. However, if someone claims that the price was different than what we rung up, we usually gave it to them -- unless it was obviously a ploy to get a good deal. Here in the USA, the customer is always (more likely usually) right, even if they are not.
I take my hat off to you, Anita as you have managed to learn an excellent English only for three years. Every morning before I go to work I'm eager to read your and Lewis posts. It is something good to start the work day with you. What kind of dictionaries help you in learning English? Best wishes to you and your lovely family and good luck with your English course!
There are lots of unclear price tag in supermarkets in Bangkok. I think it is wourse than your town because it usually occurs in big supermarkets such as TescoLotus, BigC
Anita, Don't worry you are the only person that you feel deceived by price tags or the people who are in charge of the shop.make things the worst is when i can't make head or tail of the receipt after correcting the prices.Whenever i depart with my mum she always says to me " don't be afraid what is coming in the future and try very hard to reduce mistakes and she adds that time is very precious so enjoy your life but give yourself a time to reflect what you have done.Anita, what do you normally say to your daughter before she is going back to England?
Hi Anita and all English Learners! Would you please tell me how to find Anita's interview from أغر؟´«أ½ World Service. What is the website? I am so keen to listen the sound material but fail to find it. Thank you beforehand.
hi, anita.i like to read your blog.though my English is poor,i also want to say a few words after reading it.if i have made some mistakes ,please don't laugh at me. now, in order to look after my daughter,i give up my teaching in a middle school in china, so i ususlly go to the surpermaket.but i don't know why,i've never interested in bargins.i think that bargins are often sth that are not good at quality or suitable size.if i want to buy them i will be positive thatthey are good and just because of some reasons they want to sale it in low price. you are a good mother, it has a little time to stay with your daughter.enjoy it.wish you are all flourishing and keeping well.
Hi Anita, Do like theatre (sorry, it won't be a comment on shopping)?. Last Saturday I went with my friends to Drama Laboratory in Warsaw and as usually it was a great experience and ... there was one particular reason why I started to think of you. The director of the production was Slovak - Ondrej Spisak. He's cooperated with the Polish theatre for about 6 years and during that time proved to be a genius of theatricalness - as theatre critics called him. I had an occasion to appreciate his unique artistic skills as I read the text of drama before going to the theatre and believe me, it takes an enormous imagination to perform it in the way he, and the team of Polish actors, choreographs etc, did. The author of the drama said that working with Spisak is like to set out for a long sea journey, to know new lands, new people ... So, Anita, I am in favor of Polish - Slovak friendship!!! Best to you
Hello Anita. This is my first time writing in your blog, and like you I am not with inspiration to write about any topic. That's why I haven't been practicing the english language as much as I would like in the last month. But I would love to change that tendency and start writing english as today happened. In my country, Portugal, at the supermarkets sometimes it happened the same as in your country. Fortunetly it doesn't happen frequently and I try to look at the receipt after doing my shopping. Last week I didn't pay attention to the receipt and I noticed I bought a bottle of wine for about the double of the price it was on the tag price. As I was at home when I noticed the mistake I didn't make any complaint at the supermarket. We need to pay attention all the time. Bye for now.
I would like to answer your questions and thank you for your best wishes. Hi Renata! I use Dictionary of contemporary English by Longman and English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy. Hi Hyoshil! Take care and be good! I say these words to Csilla when she leaves. Hi Jerry! You can listen to the interview here: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/webcast/mp3/tae_wc_060914_pt3.mp3 Hi Ana! I like theatre but in our town there is not a constant theatre. When we want to see a theatre performance we must travel to one of the bigger towns. We sometimes visit theatres in Budapest that is the capital city of Hungary.
