My profession- part II- the present not perfect yet
Hi Amy, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ team and friends,

Welcome to the blog. Today, Just to practice a bit the present perfect tense that teacher Amy has raised and because the reader Henrich Stamm from Santa Catarina has mistakely said that I have come from an upper-middle-class background, I want to talk about the past, the existing gap between rich and poor in our country and how it’s difficult to finish studies here and reach the university.
I start the illustration with my friend who is an intelligent guy and an expert in IT but couldn’t afford the university. Also another friend from São Paulo, fan of Tolkien’s books, who knows everything and read nearly a book per week that is in the same situation. I could write a book with several cases.
Needless to go so far. In my own family, because Henrich has taken me back, I have the image of my father bringing me up (me and 5 siblings) while working and studying until he could enter the university. What I remember of my mother is that she left us when we were children for some reason, and before you start looking for her at the internet for me, I advise that she has appeared again recently in our lives and is ok. I also remember that she was not allowed to study so... there was a huge gap even inside my family.
My mother has never read a book while my father is a teacher of financial mathmatic and statistics at a private university and as such, he wanted me to be an engineer or architect some day.
He was investing his fees in me until one day going to my uncle’s house in Rio de Janeiro, I followed his routine as a dentist. As a result, I fell in love with the profession, what happens to a great number of women here.
My father became furious because he couldn’t afford such expensive course, even if it was in a public university because the cost of the materials were very high. I reassured him saying everything would be ok and that he wouldn’t have to spend nothing with me from that day on.
I showed my grades to the preparatory course for the university entry so that I could study there for free. And finally I was there, at the university, studying what I wanted.
It was not really easy and almost impossible for one from my background. The materials were extremely expensive and I couldn’t have a full-time job due to the schedule we had at mornings, affternoons and some nights.
So, firstly I began teaching children who had bad grades in math, portuguese and the basic english. I started with one child and after some time I was with a class of 7 at home. The problem was that I showed them how to study by themselves and soon they were walking with their own legs.
They succeeded at school. And me? I started other activity. So I started making jewelleries and selling to my classmates.
On weekends I was selling natural sandwiches with my friend on the beach, more precisely at Manguinhos beach. We made a good profit and everybody wanted our sandwich criteriously made so that my friend’s brother discovered our recipe and started his business at the same beach taking away our clients!
Meanwhile I was progressing at the university, involved in many activities including trainnings inside and outside.
One of the trainnings was at the company where I work today. It was the best trainning by the time and it was a vociferous competition. All the candidates had a politician to aid. I had no one. So I did all the tests and the last step was an interview. I had no experience in interviews so I did a stupid thing. Please, readers, don’t do what I did! This is what you should never do. I’ll tell you what is but only tomorrow ‘cause I am tired now. So today we are going to have a soap opera ending.
Being always busy with the present and thinking about the future, I hate talking about the past! I know it’s boring for you, my readers, too but blame Henrich Stamm and the teacher Amy! :-D
Until next caphter! Good night! Byyyyye...
Adri

Hi Adriana i like your blog and can't wait for you to tell me what mistakes that you have done in interview :)
Adriana Elena, Thanks so much for sharing with us this very nice post.
Hello Adriana! After being ill in past day and due to it not being here at the blog i had to read a lot! Thnak you for bringing up the topic `stereotypes´ and I completly agree with you! If I think about stereotyping...there are too much stereotypes at all and most of them don´t work! Thank´s also for a view to your profession and dentist´s buisness in Brazil. As most (or quite a lot of) people I´ve got bad feelings on going to the dentists, as I haven´t been there for years (...I´ve read Amy did so (wrong)too 8-/ ). What do you do with your clients to handle with their feelings? By the way, you´ve made me looking forwadr positively, because of reaching you targets and dealing with the educatinoal and class problems in Brazil. It´s also not easy in germany and you can be "thrown out" of our society and to get in again is hard work. Looking forwadr to hearing from you! Yvonne
Hello Adri! I haven't found your blog today boring at all. I think is really good that you were sure about your studies. I finished the University four years ago, and now, I would like to have been chosen another profession. Bye for now
Hi Adri!! How are you, I hope enjoying life there. Well, it is very nice to read about your past and I must say you that you did a very hard work for your studies and livelihood. Me too don't like to talk about past because it's give you only sorrow, if you are having painful memories then it is better to remember what we did in past to reach at this place today. I think you are very keen/ enthusiastic about your work and future life. As I felt that you are always seeking truth n honesty in your life. Hey last but not least, I think you should start Yoga, it will help you to reduce stress and make you refresh as well. Adri! Have you been India ever? Hey I will wait for your reply, I hope you get time to answer us and tell us more about our country and our life. Take care Bye Manoj
Hello, Adriana. Yesterday evening the French news said there will be a lack of dentists in France in the future. Maybe there will come Brazilian dentists to rescue the French people then? Twenty years ago my eldest son went to Germany for a pupil-exchange trip. He came to a family that spoke Swedish. I wondered how that was possible and learnt that years ago there was a lack of dentists in Germany, and so Swedish dentists emigrated to Germany, because there were too many dentists in Sweden.
Hello again! What a wonderful blogs and a nice discussion club of devoted Brasilians you have gathered around! When I was going to a bed yesterday I was singing in my head ´EspirÃto Santo´ all the time (I´ve never sang aloud exept my teenage in a bathroom) and the same sounded there when I woke up today. My old parents have told to me this weak that we would never had had our house if there had not been that unfortunate 40 years lasting previous political period in my country. And, I replied that they would never had had two daughters doctors either.(The grammar here is too much for me!) Even so, I think we didn´t work so hard. What would you like your son´s future profession should be? (Hopefuly you understand something from this comment) All the best!
Hi Adriana, You forgot to tell us about the first picture you posted in today's entry. It's very beautiful. Where is it? The others show you back in the days you made jewelries, I assume. Do you still make them? Let me tell you that you are not boring at all. Everything you write is so interesting that we can't wait for the next post. So keep on with your amazing story. Good day to you.
Dear Adri, In your post you highlighted how you struggled to reach to the top hill. You left every stone unturned to achieve your goal. I can’t stop to congratulate for your success and in my opinion it is a good lesson to everyone that struggle in life can achieve success. Not only in your country, lopsided economic development created a huge gap between rich and poor people in most of the countries. But you are lucky that you born in a country where basic infrastructure are built up. We living in developing country do not have such infrastructure and get suitable environment to fulfill our desire. There is a little opportunity to study technical field and high competition. Always people from elite group get lion share in resources and they exploit in their benefit. People from low profile get minimum opportunity to fulfill their desire and are able develop themselves to become rich. Still in our country, Nepal, whole family sacrifices to make one of the family member successes because people live in joint family system. Most of the people are making their earning from agriculture which is in conservative in nature and can not make good saving. Unless and until there is substantial saving they can’t invest in profit making business. Lack of opportunities and saving poor people always marginalized. Best wishes for your success in your challenging life.
Hello Adriana! I know what you mean. It´s really difficult to reach university, especially when you have no money and need to work to support yourself and your family. However, you didn´t give up. You worked hard to reach your goal, and now you are a great professional. Girl, you are an example for me. Moreover, thanks for sharing a bit of your life´s story with us. Keep up the good work! Best wishes, Ana Paula.
Adri, you live an amazing life in a beautiful country. God was generous for you. Does it have to be prefect? Best,
Adri, I’m terribly sorry for my comment to this post - I’ve just misunderstood its title. Sorry again and please forget it. Best,
