Marrying unmistakeable Britten with flavours of Copland and hints of jazz, Britten鈥檚 American Overture launches this evening conducted by the acclaimed Tomas Djupsj枚backa, before saxophone sensation Steven Banks joins 蜜芽传媒 NOW for the UK premiere of Joan Towers鈥� Love Letters - whilst loss and sadness exude, it is grace and delicacy that flow endlessly in this dedication to her late husband.
To celebrate 100 years since his death, we experience Weber through the eyes of Hindemith as we turn to the Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Weber, in which Hindemith takes some of Weber鈥檚 most obscure themes and, whilst directly quoting the music, radically changes everything around them, from the harmony and accompanying secondary melodies to the melodic extensions and orchestrations. But first, a performance of Weber鈥檚 own quirky and charming Second Symphony.
