Berlioz's Harold in Italy from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales
Linton Stephens showcases the best performances from the UK and beyond, including Berlioz's Harold in Italy from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales.
Linton Stephens showcases the best performances by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ orchestras, choirs, ensembles and other great performing groups from Europe and around the globe.
This week on Classical Live, we will hear music inspired by the Arts including Berlioz's Harold in Italy performed by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Jonathan Bloxham. This symphonic poem is based on Byron's "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage," which depicts a melancholy wanderer's experiences in Italy. Additionally we will hear Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, recomposed by Max Richter and Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune.
Elsewhere, there's chamber music from sold out concerts at the Hay Festival, recorded exclusively for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 3 in May this year. Today pianist Danny Driver performs Ravel's impressionistic Gaspard de la Nuit and the Mithras Trio will play one of Germaine Tailleferre's most famous works, her Piano Trio.
