In the first of two programmes from Turkey, Charlie Gillett explores the modern sounds of Istanbul; from the melodies of street musicians to the tracks played in clubs and live music venues. Charlie finds out about the Doublemoon record label which champions producers and musicians making distinctive Turkish hybrids of traditional and modern music. You can also hear exclusive performances from the group Orient Expressions recorded especially for this programme. The group showcase their blend of electronica with Turkish Folk songs to create a sound 鈥渢hat moves through polyharmonic, jazzy vibes with darbuka and traditional percussion-laden grooves鈥�.
