Endangered toad
David Attenborough climbs down a cliff on Majorca, looking for a creature once thought to be extinct. It only lives in remote pools high in the mountains, where it is safe from snakes. It is the tiny Majorcan midwife toad. A male toad swims along, carrying a cluster of eggs on its hind legs - it does this to prevent them drying out. David explains that because it lived on an island with no predators, the Majorcan midwife toad has lost its poison and produces few tadpoles. So when snakes were introduced to Majorca, the toad population was devastated. It only survives in places snakes haven't yet reached.
